Overview

Prove the tank will still be there in 20 years

HDPE water storage tanks stand in Indian sunlight for decades. Failure is almost always a slow-cracking or UV-degradation issue in the resin — not a moulding fault. IS 12701 (the Indian standard for rotomoulded HDPE tanks) and IS 4984 (HDPE resin for pipes) between them prescribe the mechanical, thermal and UV-durability tests.

This solution supplies the full IS-compliant test suite — carbon black content and dispersion, OIT, ESCR, tensile, opacity and MFI — from a single Indian manufacturer that already supplies most Indian tank producers.

Standards

Standards covered

HDPE water tank tests follow IS 12701 (tanks) and IS 4984 (HDPE resin), plus ASTM D1603 (carbon black), ASTM D1693 (ESCR), ISO 11357 / ASTM D3895 (OIT), ASTM D1238 / ISO 1133 (MFI), ASTM D638 / ISO 527 (tensile), ASTM D792 / ISO 1183 (density) and IS 4985 / IS 12235 (opacity). Every instrument is calibration-certified.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum lab required for IS 12701 certification?
Carbon Black Content + Carbon Black Dispersion + ESCR + MFI + Density + Opacity. Add OIT for long-life prediction and UTM for tensile verification.
Why both carbon black content AND dispersion?
Content is how much carbon black is in the compound; dispersion is how evenly it's spread. Both matter — good content with agglomerates still leaves UV-weak spots that crack in service.
What's the shortest OIT that indicates a bad batch?
IS 4984 sets minimum OIT values by grade, but as a rule below 20 minutes at 200 °C indicates depleted or inadequate stabiliser. The full protocol is on the OIT product page.
Do you already supply Indian tank manufacturers?
Yes — Sintex-style tank producers and many regional manufacturers use our carbon black, ESCR and MFI setups; contact us for a reference list.
