Overview

Rope, yarn and twine — strength is the whole story

Rope, yarn and twine are graded on breaking strength, elongation and — for outdoor applications — retained strength after UV and heat ageing. Below-spec ropes fail without warning under load.

This solution supplies the tensile, weight and durability instruments a rope / yarn / twine plant needs, with the yarn, roller and pneumatic grips that hold slippery multifilament and twine without slipping or cutting.

Standards

Standards covered

Rope, yarn and twine tests span ASTM D2256 (yarn breaking strength), ASTM D638 / ISO 527 (tape tensile), ASTM D1238 / ISO 1133 (MFI), ISO 536 (weight), ASTM D5423 (ageing), ISO 11357 (OIT) and ASTM D792 / ISO 1183 (density). Every instrument is calibration-certified.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which grips do I need for rope and yarn?
Yarn grips and roller grips — they hold slippery multifilament without slipping or cutting the fibres. Both are supplied with the UTM.
Does one UTM cover rope, tape and film?
Yes — with the appropriate grip set (yarn, roller, pneumatic film), one UTM covers rope breaking strength, tape tensile and film tensile.
Why measure denier or GSM for yarn / tape?
Weight per length (denier) or per area (GSM) is the basic yield parameter for yarn and tape — it drives cost and directly relates to strength.
Do you supply UV chambers?
We don't currently supply UV chambers; the OIT tester and hot-air oven cover thermal-oxidative durability, which is the main polymer-degradation route for indoor / warehouse rope.
