Substance weight to seal strength — every packaging property

Paper and paperboard converters are graded on grammage (GSM), tensile and burst strength, surface friction and — for laminated packaging — seal strength. Getting these right is what stops short weights, torn cartons and leaking pouches.

This solution brings together the instruments a paper and packaging lab needs, from a compact GSM balance for incoming rolls to a UTM for burst and puncture and a heat sealer for peelable-seal development. Manufactured in Mumbai to ISO, TAPPI and ASTM methods.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between GSM and thickness?
GSM is weight per square metre (grammage) — the primary paper QC parameter. Thickness (caliper) is a separate measurement. Two papers can share GSM but differ in thickness, and both matter for stiffness and cost.
Why measure friction (COF) on paper?
COF governs how packaging runs on high-speed converting and filling lines and how packs stack on pallets. A drift in slip / anti-block additives shows up first as line jams or pack slippage.
Do you supply a burst tester?
Burst (Mullen) needs a dedicated fluid-pressure setup we don't currently make. Our UTM covers tensile, tear and puncture, which are the more informative strength tests for modern converters.
Can one UTM cover paper, film and laminates?
Yes — with the appropriate grips (film, pneumatic, roller), one UTM runs tensile, seal-strength and puncture across paper, board, film and laminate specimens.
