A halogen moisture analyser rapidly determines the moisture content of polymer granules, powders and raw materials by the loss-on-drying principle. A weighed sample is heated by a halogen lamp while an integral balance continuously tracks weight loss; when the weight stabilises, the instrument calculates and displays the moisture percentage. The whole test takes minutes rather than the hours required by oven methods.
Moisture control is critical in polymer processing: excess moisture in hygroscopic resins such as PET, Nylon and PC causes hydrolysis, splay and weak parts during moulding. Converters, compounders and recyclers use moisture analysers for fast incoming-material and pre-drying checks to ASTM E1064 and ISO 15512.
