A laboratory hydraulic press applies high, uniform pressure between two heated platens to compression-mould polymer test plaques and sheets. Polymer granules or powder are placed in a mould between the platens, which are then heated and closed under hydraulic pressure to melt and consolidate the material; controlled cooling under pressure produces a void-free, standard-thickness plaque for subsequent mechanical and physical testing.
Compression-moulding presses are used to prepare standard test specimens to ASTM D4703 and ISO 293 for tensile, flexural, impact and density testing, and are essential in polymer R&D, compounding and quality-control laboratories that must produce their own reproducible test plaques from raw material.
